Not alot to tell that hasn’t already been done/said/heard. Was surprised that the doc Andreas Neurosurgeon sent us to was not a Neuro Opthamologist after all. He actually is a Eye Plastic and Orbital Neurosurgeon. He said we could continue our care with the Neuro Opthamologist in Lansing, unless something changed in Andreas care needs. She of course went through the long exam with a tech then intern then doc. She is starting to develop what they call an orbital island – she can see through a small hole out her right eye when she covers her left eye. She sees black/ivory/purple swirls and can see the shadowing of the upper corner of a doorway – this may improve or may stay the same, they said give it a year and then not expect anymore improvement. He could see permanent damage and said it will not be 100% again and to wear eye protection at all times and take very good care of the left eye. That was about it, but a very tiring day for Andrea so she is home from school to sleep today.

Andrea will have an appt with the Neuro Radiation Oncologist on June 2nd at 1:00 – we will learn about what to expect and they will see if she is healed enough yet to begin radiation. Then we will return for an MRI just before radiation is to begin to be sure everything is looking like it should. I am having the two Neuro Oncologists checked out by my niece and we will also be asking the radiation team about having radiation in Lansing. We have been told U of M does it at Sparrow – but will have to get the OK from her Neuro Surgeon first.
Neuro Opthamologist Appt

Finally received a call from the office of Neuro Opthamologist that Andreas Neuro Surgeon wants her to see. It will e at the Kellogg Eye Center, just across the street from U of M, on May 27th at 10:30. They are fitting us in, because he had no appts available until August – but Andreas Neuro Surgeon wanted her to see this doc as soon as possible. Still waiting for our return appt date and time with her neurosurgeon so that we may begin the process for radiation with the oncologist. Andrea is still healing and on day 2 of a full day in school. She is working very hard on her school work so she can keep her 4.0 and realizing she is still not up to par yet and needs to adjust to only having sight in one eye.
Newspaper Thank You

Had the appt with the neurosurgeon and oncologist yesterday (Monday). We will see the neurosurgeon again in one month, he wants her swelling to go down more and she has a small area of her incision that has not healed properly yet before he releases her to the oncologist to begin radiation – also more time for the inside to heal. The oncologist will take over Andreas care after our final appt with the neurosurgeon. They briefly touched on the radiation process, basically phase II of this tumor removal. When the neurosurgeon gives the ok, Andrea will begin radiation – 5 days a week for 6 weeks (happy summer). We are hoping it can begin in time to be over before Andreas Marching Band Camp in August, because that will be about the only thing she’ll get out of this summer. She was hoping to at-least attend her fair in Ithaca and Greenville, but will have to see how she feels after radiation – unless we end up staying right down in Ann Arbor for those 6 weeks. Other than that, she is feeling much better and hopes to be back to herself soon. Today will be her first full day in school and it looks like she will need to do some class work this summer – from the past 4 weeks that she has missed. Just keeping current at this time is enough for her to do. Thanks for your continued caring and support of Andreas Journey.

Today Andrea attended school for a couple classes and did very well. She is happy to be using her mind and get some normalcy back into her life. She will continue to attend school this week for 2 classes every morning and if all goes well she will begin full time next week. Monday the 11th we will see the neurosurgeon and oncologist – still waiting for a call on the neuro opthamologist appt. Andreas neurosurgeon called last Friday evening from his home to check on Andrea, he was off work for a few days because his wife had surgery. He wants Andrea to see a particular neuro opthamologist at U of M and said we should be getting a call regarding her appt soon. Other than that Andrea is progressing, her swelling is almost completely gone and she rarely takes any pain meds. She is doing great on her school work and adjusting well to only having sight in one eye. Her stitches are almost all gone and her hair is growing in fast. That is all until after the appt on the 11th.
